Hospice
Volunteers
Volunteers are an integral part of the
Community Care Hospice Team. Our hospice welcomes volunteers from
all walks of life who want to invest their time and energy in
the well being of others. There are a variety of ways in which
an individual can assist patients and families. These include:
- Offering companionship to both the
patient and family
- Staying with the patient while the
caregiver runs errands, etc., providing time for respite
- Helping with shopping or running errands
- Helping with light meal preparation
and limited physical care
- Providing bereavement support through
assistance with mailings, supportive phone calls and special
events, including “Light Up A Life” and our Annual
Remembrance Service
- General clerical assistance
All volunteers must complete a 6-8 week
training program. Meeting once per week, participants learn about
the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients and families
and about how hospice care endeavors to meet those needs. They
also explore their own attitudes and perception regarding death
and learn methods for effective listening and communication.
