Community Visiting Nurse Association held its 61st Annual Meeting on May 12, 2009 at the Bridgewater Manor.  The agency awarded the Reverends Frank Villerius and John Graf with its highest honor, the Marie Gemeroy award.  This award recognizes an individual(s) for extraordinary contributions to the agency and/or its clients.  The award is given in memory of Marie Gemeroy, the first director of the Somerset Valley Visiting Nurse Association (now known as Community VNA) who is remembered for her strength, fortitude, commitment and dedication not only to the organization but to the field of public health as well.

 

Reverend Frank Villerius, Community VNA’s chaplain since 1997, was acknowledged for his kindness, compassion, and genuine concern, especially at the most difficult and trying times in one’s life. As Alyce Brophy, President and CEO stated, “Frank is always available to all of us, patients, staff, and community, with a kind word, a thoughtful touch, he is at the very center of caregiving.”

 

The second recipient, Reverend John Graf was recognized for his volunteerism, dedication and commitment to the non profits of Somerset County.  John volunteered his time and energy, leading the team in planning and implementing our first signature fundraiser this year, “Valentine’s for the VNA.”  “I do not believe there is one age group that has not in some way benefited from John, who sees the world as an opportunity to serve and give back to his community”, stated Alyce Brophy.

 

Community Visiting Nurse Association and its affiliates, Community VNS, Community Home Care and Community Care Hospice are non-profit home health and hospice providers serving Somerset and Middlesex counties since 1948. They are licensed by the state of New Jersey, certified by Medicare and Medicaid and accredited by Community Health Accreditation Program.  Community VNA provides home health care, hospice care and community services.
