CVNA Partners on Free Workshop Series for Seniors -
Taking Care of Your Parents: Heartfelt Advice from the Experts

Community Visiting Nurse Association is pleased to partner with The Center for Life Transitions of Bridgewater, NJ, to host a series of free workshops where senior issues can be discussed and addressed among family members and area experts.  “Any time we have an opportunity to partner with other organizations that help the population we serve, we want to join in making a greater impact than we might achieve singly,” explains Alyce Brophy, President and CEO of Community VNA.  “The workshop topics are issues we hear people experiencing every day. It’s important to see them addressed.”

These workshops, held Tuesday evenings from 7-8:30 PM in October and November, will feature leading area experts, including staff from Community VNA such as Anita Ciano, Hospice Manager of Community Care Hospice since 2001 and a certified Hospice Administrator and Bereavement Support Group Facilitator.  Anita’s workshop, “Being a Loving Presence: Providing Personal and Spiritual Support,” will guide participants in end of life care and illustrate how this can be what she terms “an opportunity for seniors and children to grow closer together in union.”  Also presenting is Joan Smith, Rehabilitation Manager at Community VNA, where her home care experience has made evident the vital importance of home safety and fall prevention.  Her workshop, “Safeguarding the Elderly,” will educate participants on putting proactive emergency systems in place and key factors to increase seniors’ independence.  Her talk is especially timely for adult children whose senior parents live far from them.

The advice and expertise offered in all of the workshops is not just for the caretakers, but also for those who are being taken care of, as senior care is a family affair.  Additional featured experts include elder care lawyers, authors, nurses and educators who are all experienced workshop leaders and appreciate the fact that participants want to leave with an “action plan.” “We have been serving people in Somerset and Middlesex counties for 62 years and we’re continuing to grow to meet the needs of our community,” says Alyce Brophy. “Participation in this series is yet another valuable and efficient structure for distributing such important information.”

While all of the workshops are free of charge, The Center for Life Transitions, located at 191 Church Road, Bridgewater, NJ, requests that participants register in advance since seating is limited.   For more information on the Center’s upcoming events and projects, please visit www.centerforlifetransitions or call 908-203-0088.
